ML Furnaces LimitedAerospace applications require stringent temperature control and uniform temperature distribution within the working enclosure. M L Furnaces Ltd has developed a range of ovens from small bench top units which may be used for preliminary laboratory development to large capacity units suitable for production operations. This page draws together the title pages for the units which are most likely to be of general use in the industry as well as including a few which may be of a specialist nature. Low temperature applicationsFor low temperature applications such as curing resin bonded laminates and structures the range begins with the small drying ovens such as the Bench top dryers which are suitable for small items from less than 150mm cube to about 500mm cube. Larger drying ovens for items up to about 1000mm cube are available as standard units or they can be made to measure as single or multiple chamber units. These units generally have maximum operating temperatures below 250°C and frequently have air circulation to allow the temperature distribution in the working chamber to be less than ± 5°C of the set temperature. Medium temperature applicationsGenerally the metals used in aerospace applications are aluminium or magnesium alloy based. The melting temperature for pure aluminium is about 645°C. This means that heat treatment temperatures are usually below about 450°C.
M L Furnaces Ltd have a range of air circulating ovens designed for this application. They include small bench furnaces and larger floor standing production units. This range of ovens can also be used for other metals and materials since they will usually be constructed to have a maximum operating temperature of 650°C to 700°C. High temperature applicationsWhere metals and other materials are used there may be a call for higher temperatures of operation. Heat treatment above about 750°C can generally be satisfactorily achieved without the need for air circulation since radiation begins to play a significant part in temperature distribution. It is also difficult to construct satisfactory bearings and fan blades to operate above this temperature. The M L Furnaces Ltd range for heat treatment furnaces begins with the annealing oven (including tempering and other practices) mentioned above and extends to the M range of furnaces for temperatures up to 1200°C with chamber sizes taking ware from 50 x 50 x 100mm to about 250 x 250 x 300mm. Other sizes of furnace can be built to order. Within this temperature band is a top loading furnace which can be used with or without a crucible. In the crucible configuration an A6 size crucible can be used for melting copper alloys. It could also be used with care as an aluminum melter. Other furnacesChamber furnaces with Ranges of tube furnaces with different operating temperatures and tube diameters are also available.
