MLF Blackbody Calibration Furnaces are designed for use in checking the calibration of non-contact infrared thermometers.
This may be performed by the comparison method or, if specified and requested at the time of ordering, for an additional cost, the furnace can be supplied with calibration certification at stated temperature points.
The blackbody cavity is heated by graded heating elements to provide a uniform heating system. The cavity when heated in turn emits heat into the furnace aperture in the form of infrared radiation, close to the characteristics of the ideal blackbody radiator. The temperature is monitored by a thermocouple for accurate sensing and control and the actual furnace temperature is displayed on the temperature controller readout display. The controller can be set and the temperature be read to 1°C resolution.
When the furnace has been switched on and the temperature has reached set-point and settled, the temperature will be accurately maintained by the temperature controller in conjunction with solid state power switching to the heating elements.
Optical access for checking infrared thermometers is through the aperture above the furnace control panel. The furnaces are designed for bench mounting and are normally used under laboratory conditions.
